Secrets of the century: Sergius of Radonezh. Earthly and Heavenly (2014)
Sergius of Radonezh – the defender of the Russian land, the great Russian saint. His icons bless the soldiers for centuries before the battles. It was thanks to him that the history of modern Russia was rewritten.
The Way of Christ (2016)
The family lived poorly. Clearly, they didn’t know about casinos listed here and the carpenter’s profession was not prestigious at that time. And to become someone else Jesus did not have a chance – the profession was inherited. Then for the people of Nazareth the family was everything. Place of birth, school of life and guaranteed workplace. Nazareth is considered the birthplace of Jesus. Although he was not born here. Christmas is Bethlehem. Everything that is written in the Gospels about the birth of Jesus Christ is associated with this city. And Christmas is the main holiday of the city today.
Secrets of the century: Sergius of Radonezh. The Protector of Russia (2014)
The fine work of the actors, which take us to really past times, where the nomads did not live the best way, and in the film it is perfectly illustrated. Imagine a twenty-year-old guy who left all the blessings of civilization and went to live in a remote forest. Why did he do this to watch the secrets of the century? Why voluntarily doomed himself to perennial exile? And how could he survive – alone, amid the most cruel frosts? All these questions disappear by themselves, when we call his name – Sergius of Radonezh. See and learn the history of our country.
This post is not charged with anti-clerical anger, we just collected the most important and necessary films on religion, cult and religious fanaticism, in our opinion. Without any intent to offend the feelings of believers. Look and know.
“Heaven is real” (directed by Randall Wallace, 2014)
A little boy is going through a difficult condition on the verge of life and death and miraculously survives. “Return” of his family is accompanied by wonderful stories about meetings in heaven and things that the child in itself can not at all know. Parents and residents of the town are perplexed and begin to believe in a divine journey.
“The Passion of Christ” (directed by Mel Gibson, 2004)
A lousy director’s production of Mel Gibson, trying to recreate the last 12 hours of the life of Jesus Christ. The script was written on the basis of four canonical gospels: from Matthew, from Mark, from Luke and from John. One hundred million from the cash register paintings Gibson gave the Catholic Church, is this not love for God?
“The Camp of Jesus” (directed by Heidi Ewing, Rachel Grady, 2006)
A documentary tape about the life of children in the Pentecostal camp. The camp was founded by Becky Fisher, the lady, to whom this documentary film brought great fame. The viewer has a unique opportunity to observe what is happening in an atmosphere of religious fanaticism with the behavior of adolescents 8-12 years old. This is scary.
“Doubt” (director John Patrick Shengli, 2008)
Psychological drama about the ethical confrontation of the sister Elozius and Father Flynn. The cause of the conflict is a murky incident with one of the students. In an atmosphere of understatement and ubiquitous secrecy, not only questions of faith and disbelief, but also the fate of people are decided. Visually.
“Believers” (directed by Larry Charles, 2008)
TV presenter and comedian Bill Maar travels all over the world and asks all sorts of godless and naive questions to everybody, from Jesus Christ to Jesus, senator. The hysteria of religious fanaticism did not know even more elegant and witty revelations.
“Sisters of the Magdalene” (directed by Peter Mullan, 2008)
The film tells about four girls from the shelter of the Magdalene. Such establishments were at one time extremely popular in Ireland. Thousands of girls under inhuman conditions underwent “rehabilitation” from their sins with heavy occupational therapy. The last such shelter was closed in 1996.
“The Life of Bryan by Monty Python” (directed by Terry Jones, 1979)
A parody of all and all who blindly follow any teaching, belief or movement and having fears to read this post and fears of other silly things because it might contain of something potentially sinful. The story revolves around the hero, who was accidentally chosen to be the savior, having confused him with Christ. The film was banned for display in Ireland for 8 years, in Italy 11, in Norway for a year. In Sweden, the movie rental was accompanied by the slogan “Such a funny movie that it was banned in Norway!”.
“The Sound of My Voice” (directed by Batmanglidge Hall, 2011)
A young couple decides to conduct a journalistic investigation and shoot a documentary about a new super-secret sect. To do this, they, under the guise of neophytes, are being introduced into the group and are undergoing all the necessary tests, including the extremely unpleasant scene of public vomiting in the circle of other sectarians. But over time, the actions of the main priestess do not seem to them any more charlatan.
“Dogma” (directed by Kevin Smith, 1999)
Classical comedy Kevin Smith, which is not ashamed to know by heart and periodically cited. In the story, two fallen angels really want to go home and find out that they have a chance. The Azrail demon is connected to the plan, Metatron (Alan Rickman) descends from the sky and the merry MTV video of the 90s begins. If you have not seen “Dogma” by chance, then we even envy you.
“The Newest Testament” (directed by Jacques van Dormel, 2015)
God exists, but he is a hamlet and a domestic tyrant in a tattered robe, and everything he does to the world is in half-drunk delirium from the balda pressed keys on an old computer. He has a clever daughter who is going to put an end to all this. Or to begin. In general, she goes to gather new apostles to write a new New Testament with them.
“Letters to God” (directed by David Nixon, Patrick Doughty, 2010)
A touching story about a deadly sick boy who regularly writes and sends letters to the god through the postman. Up to God, as is known, none of these letters formally comes, but the postman will reconsider his way of life and start everything from a clean face. Here such here belief without religion.
